Road fuel sales plunge 6% as drivers cut down on the miles but diesel is up to 7%

The Off road diesel fuel increases in the cost of living over the past few years have put many families under financial pressure. One of the main factors that has been hurting households is the price of petrol and diesel. Road fuel duty was due to be increased last August, but the Chancellor delayed it in June. However, a planned 30 rise in duty by the Coalition, which has faced rebellion from numerous MPs may now be delayed further, following a hint from the treasury.

The government said that off road fuel diesel prices it will do everything it can to support struggling families with the cost of living and this has led many to conclude that in the Autumn Statement. The chancellor will delay he planned 3p rise. Labour was defeated in its efforts to force a delay of the proposed 3p duty rise,as Tory bankbenchers were given this hint that the Treasury would decide to delay the increase anyway. The Economic Secretary to the Treasury said that fuel duty is part of the government's strategy to help cut the cost of living. He commented that fuel duty was 20% lower in real terms compared to March 2000, when it was at its peak.

These new Government fuel retail sale figures, when set against changes in the number of petrol and diesel cars on the road, show that soaring fuel prices have had by far the greatest impact on pump sales since 2008. For five years, up to 76 per cent of AA members have cut back on car use, or on other spending or both, to survive petrol pump prices that peaked at 119.7 p a litre in the summer of 2008 but then set the current record of 142.48p in April 2012.

The farm exemption for road tax on fuel Asda has slashed the cost of unleaded for the third time in as many weeks, with a 3p drop that means motorists should pay no more than 128.7p per litre at any of its forecourts, far lower than the average price across the UK. Rival supermarket giant, Saisbury's, meanwhile said that it has cut the price of unleaded petrol by up to 6p per litre and diesel bu up to 4p.

According to comparison tool petrol prices.com, the national average is currently nearly 8p more than Asda's new the off diesel fuel prices at 136.21 p and latest AA stastics show a similar price. Richard Crampton, Sinsbury's head of fuel, told that "We want our customers to benefit from the recent drop in whe wholesale price of fuel. Fuel is a big part of the weekly budget for many households so we hope this cut will be welcomed by drivers across Britain."
