Renault Captur test

Renault that teased the new age compact SUV, Captur a couple of days back has today unveiled the car completely. The car is slated to make its public debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor show in March 2 Renault Captur will be competing with the likes of Holden Trax, Ford Ecosport. Nissan Juke and recently revealed Peugeot 2008 Compact SUV. The new Renault Captur is based on the Clio supermini platform, but offers an elevated ride height and quasi-SUV looks. It's aiming to take a slice of the fast-growing compact-crossover car market, but is talented enough beneath the funky garnish.

The good burghers at Renault have taken a long, lingering look at the sales figures Citroen has extracted from its DS3 merely by dint of painting the roof a different colour, and decided to cop a copycat feel of the B-SUV market. Renault Captur's engine options are three engines, all turbocharged, are available; a 0.9 litre, three cylinder, 89 bhp and 1.2 litre, 118 bhp petrol units and a 1.5 litre, 88 bhp turbodiesel. With the Uk sales monstering three sampled both four-cylinder engines. Renault's torquey, stalwart, 1.5 litre turbodiesel needs no introduction, Mated to a five-speed exactly what it has always said on the tin, equating to 62 mph in 12.6 seconds, just 106 mph and 76.4 mpg and 96g/km of Co2.

Captur addresses the second phase of that cycle, that of two people exploring the world around them. In its proportions and fluid curves. Renault Captur evokes movement and lightness, yet displays powerful and muscular all-terrain cues. Just as with DeZir, angels, corners and lines have given way to sensuous and natural forms. For the exterior design, the main sources of inspiration were athletes and radical sports, with references equipment such as helmets, gloves and other protective gear used in radical sports, combining high technology with sophistication and lightness.

The rear of the vehicle is a multipurpose area where the deck is lined with three layers of rope:

  • Storage area: the stretched cords are laid out in a way that allows items to be secured, thus providing a reconfigurable storage area.
  • Comfort: the supply elasticity of the structure provides an entirely new type of comfort, a new form of seating akin to a hammock.
  • Modularity: it is possible to pull seatbacks from the side of the car to provide two full-sized rear seats, with seat belts and heat restraints. This enables Captur to accommodate four passengers.
Captur makes use of the Energy dCi160 twin-turbo engine-concept, developed from the new Energy dCi 130. Captur also marks the debut of the Visio-system, an innovation that uses a forward-facing camera mounted at the top of the windscreen to provide driver-assistance functions. The new technology displays synthesised images into real-time images of the road on a central screen, to enhance the driver's perception of the external world.
