Calgary flames Hockey Cards

               Calgary- Mark Giordano is the new captain of the Calgary Flames. He becomes the 19th player in franchise history to wear the captains 'c'. The flames say Curtis Glencross and Mike Cammalleri will return as assistant captains. Giordano, a 29-year-old Toronto native, Cammalleri will return as assistant captains, succeeds Jarome Iginla as captain. Iginla wore the 'C' for nine seasons before signing with the Boston Bruins as a free agent in the off-season. Giordano has 150 points (41 goals, 109 assists) in 385 career regular-season games with the Flames.

                             The leadership torch of the Calgary Flames has been handed to Mark Giordano. The veteran defenceman was named the 19th captain in franchise history Friday morning. Curtis Glencross and Mike Cammalleri are the alternates. Mark represents all the qualities that we set as a coaching staff and an organization," head coach Bob Hartley said in a statement. "He is a quality man who is proud to represent the Clagary Flames both on and off the ice. We are very happy with these three men leading and setting the example for our team, and especially our young players, as we move through this crucial yet exciting period in the history of the Flames franchise. Giordano, who will turn 30 in Oct 3, returned to the Flames for the 2008-09 season and was named an alternate captain s the start of the 2011-2012 season. He's been an active part of the community, too, notably as a spokesman for Habitat fro Humanity.

                                Giordano joined the team after a free-agent invite to the team's summer development camp in 2004, after which he was signed to a contract. He spent the bulk of his first two pro seasons in the minors, spent the bulk of the 2006-07 season in Calgary, but the following season playing for Moscow Dynamo in Russia.
