According to Latino Review, Schwarzenegger will reunite with his former Terminator director to play " a bad guy human general" in the forthcoming sequel. Now while it's true that Cameron and Schwarzenegger have worked together in the past, it does sound a surprising move, should the rumour turn out to be true. Save for Sigourney Weaver in a supporting role, the first film was decidely light on established stars, preferring instead to focus on the lush backdrop of Pandora. Casting Schwarzenegger would be the polar opposite of that approach. Much as we might like to see it happen, we'll be filling this one in the rumour pile for the time being. With Avatar 2 not scheduled for release until December 2016, there will likely be plenty more where that come the true.

Hollywood studio 20th Century Fox has denied reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger will play the main villain in James Cameron's Avatar sequel. The occasionally incisive Latino Review blog said on Monday that the former governor of California would reunite with his Terminator director on the long-gestating followup to the highest-grossing movie of all time. Cameron is planning three new films set in the same solar system as the forest moon of Pandora, where the action took place in his 2009 box office megalith.

More established Hollywood sites routinely rubbish scoops by upstart rivals in the blogosphere. More often than not they turn out to be right to do so, but Latino Review has occasionally struck gold in the past. While the site predicted recently that Christian Bale would return as Batman for a sequel to Man of Steel the role eventually went to Ben Affleck, it correctly revealed that Marvel Studios' next film would be based on the Guardians of the Galaxy comic before the film company officially announced it last year.

It is believed that they will further explore the alien terrain of Pandora, the first sequel would involve its oceans, while the second would explore its orbit and Moon. Cameron has stated that the third would be a prequel and follow the Navi before humans discovered Pandora. Schwarzenegger has been joined by Kelsey Grammer in the next instalment of Sly Stallone's enduringly popular 80s action throwback saga The Expendables.
